Work commenced on the new building at St. Bartholomew’s on Monday 16 November. It is hard to believe that this day has come after so many years in the planning stage, but the evidence is there for all to see.
Our contractors, Farringtons, are proving very co-operative, so if you have any issues with access or anything else as the project develops over the next six months, just let them or a churchwarden know. Access to the church will be by the main door whilst building is going on.
With the work under way, we continue to turn our attention to paying for it! Although we are applying for grants and have successfully obtained £7,500 from the Allchurches Trust, we have a way to go if we are not to deplete the parish reserves completely. In these difficult times, fund raising activities are difficult to organise, so if you feel able to support us in any way, please let the Treasurer know as he will be only too pleased to hear from you.
It has only been possible to get to this point through the generosity of two or three significant donations and the wider support from Friends of Waldron Churches who have kindly allocated £50,000 of their funds to this project. We heartily thanks everyone who has already helped us thus far and we look forward to the day in 2021 when we shall be enjoying a cup of tea (or something stronger) as we open the doors to all and seek to reach out to the community at large.
