Open Gardens, Flower Festival & Concert - 13 July 2024
We can report that a bright Saturday 13 July saw a steady stream of visitors from far and mainly near enjoy four beautifully-tended Summer Gardens in the middle of Waldron: Rafters, Lark Rise, The Old House and Woodland View, all lovingly prepared over many weeks by the Fanshawes, Corfields, Jay Graham and the Bazens respectively. Lawns were trim, flowers were glorious and vegetables were just bursting to be shared. The gloriously flower-bedecked All Saints' Church then hosted a concert of varied music by the Downland Singers, an Eastbourne choir of mixed voices based in Willingdon. Their irrepressible musical director Jennie Macfadyen, with accompanist Alastair Macfadyen, conducted them in a medley of a dozen songs, even cajoling the audience into singing the uplifting Bella Mama (from Cameroon), the musical hour rounding off a most successful day which raised £1500 for the 'Flush Fund' towards church toilet facilities
